Sleeveless pleated polyester tunic, from ISSEY MIYAKE, Autumn/Winter 1991-92, the mainline runway collection. The pleats run vertically over the full length of the body. The shoulders are cut wider than the chest and the sides taper inward beneath them; the armholes are set into those sides, under the shoulder extensions. The collar is a tall funnel. It stands at full height or folds back down on itself, where it sits as a wide roll at the base of the neck. It wears alone or layered over a long-sleeved top.

The tunic dates to Miyake's third year of pleating. The first pleated pieces were shown for Spring/Summer 1989, and the technique was developed inside the mainline collections for several seasons afterward. It predates PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE, established as a separate line in 1993.
