Cropped linen jacket, from ISSEY MIYAKE, Spring/Summer 1989, the mainline runway collection. The body is cut square, as wide as it is at the shoulder, and ends above the waist. The sleeves are wide, short and cut in one with the body. A broad collar folds back over the shoulders and lies flat across the upper back as a single panel. A woven band in a corded weave, in the same grey as the linen, borders the collar, the front edges and the hem, and is repeated as a horizontal band across the collar itself. The front is open, with no closure.

The jacket dates to Spring/Summer 1989, the collection in which Miyake showed his first pleated pieces. This is not one of them. The pleating of those years developed alongside the rest of the mainline rather than replacing it.
